A training session organized and facilitated by Kenyan-Heart that was held for the Kariobangi South area Local Committee.

The “Kenyan-Heart Local Committees” Program is Yet Another Initiative by Kenyan-Heart National Foundation to intensify the Rheumatic Heart Disease Prevention at the Grass-root levels.
Kenyan-Heart Selects Leaders of various Groups right from the Grassroot & Educates them about Rheumatic Heart Disease & How to Prevent it.

These Local Grass-root Leaders once Empowered with this knowledge are able to now Reach others from their Communities & to Equip them too with the Knowledge of How to Identify the Symptoms of A Strep-Sore Throat, Rheumatic Fever & Rheumatic Heart Disease & How to Prevent that progression.

The Local Committees purpose is to Spread the message of the Prevention of Rheumatic Heart Disease on behalf of Kenyan-Heart, thus implementing the Project Goals & Objectives to the Grass-root level.

They are also to Network amongst the Local Communities in order to make the Project A Community Based-Owned-Project, thus Making it, Sustainable.

Members of the Local Committee comprise of:-

1. The Local Area Chiefs.
2. Leaders of different Community Based Organizations & Groups such as, Women Groups, Youth Groups, Environmental Groups and many others.

So far, Kenyan-Heart has managed to Establish a Very Dynamic Local Committee in Starehe Constituency.

The Local Committee Members are already running Rheumatic Heart Disease Prevention activities within the Community. One of the most recent activities that they help organize is the Huruma Environmental Clean-Up Activity whose theme was “Keep Huruma Clean, Be Healthy.” This exercise was done in collaboration with other Community Based Groups within the area & it was very successful.
