Kitchen Gardens
Kenyan-Heart at work

Kenyan-Heart Kitchen Gardens are the latest initiative of the Kenyan-Heart National Foundation in its quest to promote Heart-Health through Good Nutrition. The Kitchen Gardens are miniature gardens set up in Schools to teach and enhance good nutrition to the students, teachers and the community.
The gardens have a variety of vegetables, fruits and other food crops such as maize and Beans. Some schools have even ventured into the rearing of rabbits and chicken for meat and eggs. Creativity is encouraged and is key to the success of the kitchen gardens:
Since space available differs from school to school, those with limited space grow their vegetables in sacks full of soil. All the produce is harvested and consumed by the school.
Currently, Kenyan-Heart has introduced the Kitchen Gardens only to Schools. We however plan to roll out the initiative to other institutions like Health Centres, Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) Youth Group-Set-Ups, Women Groups etc in an effort to sensitise communities on the importance of Good Nutrition for Healthy-Hearts.
